Noble and Slavish.

Today in class we discussed the difference between noble and slavish mode valuation. The noble of valuation is the determination of the good first and the bad second. The slavish of valuation is the determination of evil first and good second. In today's society there are different ways to teach a child which of these ways do you think is more effective. I feel as if these two are very distinct. I think we should take significantly into account the "no" and the "yes". Should we teach children "yes this is the positive" and encourage the positive. Today like said in class an example of "no" is the Ten Commandments because often before we are told the good, it's often no don't do this or that. How do you think we should approach learning etc using these two examples. Obviously it's good to have a mixture but that's not the option.

  1. I had actually never even thought to question our "no" commandments. Especially with children, I never thought about what saying only no would do to them. It's definitely better to teach children to be good instead of just giving them rules to one day break.

If I remember our bible classes correctly, that was a big problem that was constantly addressed in the bible. It was about keeping the spirit of the law, not the letter. Just following the letter you can get away with a lot of things on a technicality. Being good is a lot different than just being not bad, after all.

  2. I think that when you say no to someone it put thoughts in their head as to why not do this or that which makes them want to do those things even more. However if you say yes all the time and don't have does no's then this society would be in complete chaos. You have to set boundaries because if you don't there will be no order!
